Ruth M. Bailey, age 87, of Britton in Ridgeway Township, passed away to be with her Lord on February 1, 2010 at Herrick Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 14, 1922 in the home that her Grandpa Beasley built. Her parents were R. B. and Ethelwyn (Beasley) Kanous.
On November 28, 1941, Ruth married Paul J. Bailey, her high school sweetheart. They graduated together from Britton High School. Mrs. Bailey has been a resident of the Britton area most of her life, living on their farm since 1947, growing and preserving fruits and vegetables for her family. She also maintained beautiful flower gardens that were displayed throughout her home and shared with friends and her church. Ruth was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Britton. Sharing her love of music, Ruth was a member of the choir, previously the organist, pianist and choir director. Ruth was a member of the U.M.W. of the church and was talented in making crafts for friends and the church bazaars. Ruth loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much and was known as the Cookie Grandma, always having cookies available whenever they visited and of course everyone knew where the cookie jar was! Besides her husband, Paul, Ruth is survived by two daughters and one son, Diane (Bill) Brooks of Angola, IN, Carol (Bill, deceased) Parias of Tecumseh, and Troy (Debra) Bailey of Saline; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Phillip, son David Bailey of Saline, infant granddaughter, Deanna, two brothers, Kenneth Kanous of Tecumseh and Edward Kanous of Britton, four sisters, Dorothy Brablec of Roseville, Alice Herrick of Milan, Florence Simecek of Milan and Esther Allegrina of Ferndale. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 4 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Amy Mayo-Moyle of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Ridgeway Cemetery. Ruth requested memorial contributions be made to Grace United Methodist Church of Britton. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Allen Balinski, Dr. Filomena Buenaflor, nurses and staff of Herrick Medical Center, Hospice staff, Pastor Amy Mayo-Moyle and all friends who visited, sent food, flowers or offered prayers and well wishes. |
